So, I’ve decided I’m going to basically reinvent my wardrobe, by designing a whole bunch of new clothes for myself to wear around. Like I said, promote myself. It’d be the best way to get myself out there when I’m out and about anywhere.
I’m going to make Tyler’s jacket starting tonight. My mom and I are going to buy the supplies for that after she gets off work. I’m probably checking into the necessary accessories for Vicki’s shirt while I’m there as well. For Tyler’s jacket, I think I’m just sticking to Black and Dark Grey, because it looks too much like My Chemical Romance during their Black Parade era if I make it Black with White straps. I’m not trying to look like I’m ripping off other people’s ideas, I did come up with this straightjacket coat idea on my own.
Then if he comes with me to my family’s Thanksgiving get together, he’ll get his jacket then whenever we pick him up. Then, he’ll also get to see me in my design. Yes, I plan on designing an outfit for that get together. I think it’ll be great to see the looks on my cousins’ faces whenever I tell them that I made that from scratch.
Good stuff, good stuff.
But, I’m going to go clean and see if I can find any of my clothes to reinvent.
Vicki came over this morning to try on a tank top which I will be using for her corset tank top design. It fits great. It has enough room that it’s baggy now. But, once I do the corset lacing, it’ll fit perfect. So that was a great choice. She also helped me create a skirt to wear to Tyler’s today. It looks really cute. She helped me by taking a picture of me modeling it, which I will be posting later on. I want to see if Tyler can take a few more pictures of me in the skirt from different angles so everyone sees the design from all around. My whole problem was that I’m not trying to get a dead on front angle, because I’m wearing a shirt from Hot Topic today. So I definitely don’t want people to get the wrong impression and believe I’m modeling a shirt that I didn’t design. I just want the skirt to be shown off in the best ways possible. All pictures will be posted later. I’m going to make a new photo album for all of my fashion design photos to be posted in. I might even make another album for fashion design sketches, to show my rough drafts of designs, then show the final piece in the fashion design album. I think it’ll be good.
Plus, Vicki has consented to being filmed during the process of her design, so I started the filming process for my first fashion design episode. Once the design and filming are complete, I’ll put the film clips together and post it on YouTube, then put an embed in a post on here.
I am also working on making a tag design to put into every clothing article I create, which will be pretty nifty. Once I get those ready, every single custom fashion design I make will be branded with “Custom Design By Lindsey Sin” and the website url. Good stuff, good stuff.
I’m working with the head of an organization called Southern Students for Choice. The organization is a support group that is trying to get the morning after pill stocked into every single pharmacy possible, in order to give women that option. The head of the organization and I are on good terms, because I’ve done a lot of volunteer work for them at Warped Tour. So, he told me he might be able to talk to some women’s activist groups, support groups, and art groups to try and help me build a list of clientele. He also gave me an idea to design an entire line of alternative style fitness wear, which I’m definitely going to work on now. Amazing!
Sounds like a fun day to me so far, can’t wait to show off the skirt later!
By the way, I now have a flipcam, so I’m thinking about starting to shoot video when I’m working on fashion design projects or other projects. Now, don’t be surprised when it looks kind of crappy, it’s not the best camcorder in the world, but it’ll work for now to at least start, and it came with a free 2gig card, so I was happy with that alone. I’m sure I have access to cards that hold more memory as well, so no biggie, it’ll all be taken care of eventually to the point where I will try to film when I am with the client (us negotiating or going over a design, or fittings), getting the necessary supplies, and even making the clothing or finishing the design. It might turn into a mini webisode thing, which would be pretty cool.
Everyone should check out my YouTube account as well, because that’s where I post basically all of my videos.
The user name is linnychaos. So check that out sometime!
On Thursday or Friday, I’m going to buy the supplies for Tyler’s birthday jacket design. My mom’s being really supportive about this, she’s actually going to help me pick out and buy some of the things needed to make his jacket. I’m really happy with how cool she is. I’ve found the necessary belt loops and accessories for his jacket in a craft store in Pittsburgh, but I’m sure they’ll have them at Wal-Mart or in Pat Catans to get them around here. I’m really excited that everything is easily accessible around here, and I’m sure Tyler is going to love the jacket once it’s done and I give it to him for his birthday.
Plus, I wanted to discuss some new art techniques I’d like to dabble in. I would love to do a Picasso-esque drawing, because I saw one Erica made for an art assignment. It looks awesome, and I definitely want to try it out for myself.
Anyhow, I just wanted to give a friendly update about how everything is going with this, and how excited I am to have people wearing clothing I’ve designed. They’ll be like walking advertisements, and this will definitely help to get my name out there. So hopefully I get new clients soon after Tyler’s and Vicki’s designs are done and they’re wearing them out and about.
So, I bought the first supplies to start making Tyler’s jacket. I’m going over to his house today to hang out, and to do a measuring/fitting/whatever you want to call it. He wants to look at the designs with me, so it’s going to be interesting to see what he has to say. We’ll probably have to debate over tweaking I don’t want to do or he doesn’t want me to do, but oh well, we’re boyfriend and girlfriend, and a little bickering is healthy every once in awhile.
On top of starting his jacket design, I told Vicki I wanted to make her a design for her birthday, and the only condition was that she had to model it for on here once it’s done. She’s absolutely ecstatic over that. See, awhile back her and I were discussing whether I should get into fashion design or not. And her words to me were “Well if you do, you had damn well better use me as a model!”. So she gets a kickass birthday gift, and she gets her wish to be one of my models. I’m excited, because Vicki is my best friend, and she’s going to be great to work with in general. I already have the vision in my head, I just have to sketch her design and I’ll be able to get started on her top as well.
I really love that I’m putting myself out there, because I’m going to find a way to put in a tag or a stitched in emblem that has the website and email address in it, and says that it was a Lindsey Sin custom clothing design. People will ask where they got those great clothes, and then they’ll show their friends the tags. The friends will email me and tell me what they’re interested in, and BAM! I’ve got new clients.
I really hope it works out that way.
But anyhow, I need to go draw Vicki’s design, or at least a rough sketch, so I have an idea of what I want it to turn out like.
I’ll keep everyone posted!
Sincerely,
Lindsey
PS: I also want to do a pumpkin carving design within the next few days, it’s going to look great.
So I made a few changes to Tyler’s jacket design, it looks even better than I imagined it would. It’s amazing how a few little tweaks will make something look even better.
I’m excited, I’m going to start looking for materials online today.
But, I have a lot to be doing, along with Tyler’s jacket. So I’d better go do all of that.
Because of Steven, I’m re-visiting a site I used to frequent, http://freerice.com. It’s a website that I used to think would only improve my vocabulary skills, because you had to try to pick the correct word that meant the same thing as the word up top. Well, no. I was wrong. Apparently, I can change the categories, and that’s awesome!
This does actually have a purpose that pertains to art, I promise. Because one of the categories was art, so instead of picking a synonym for a word, I get to try and figure out which artist created which work of art. It’s awesome, because in a half hour’s time, I’ve been able to pin down the styles of several different artists. I already knew typical Van Gough paintings, I knew the basic idea of his style, but now I’ve gained a better understanding, down to the last detail. This site is helping me with my culture and history in art.
Not only is it benefiting me and my art history education, for every correct answer, the UN gives ten grains of rice to help stop world hunger. It’s really useful, and it’s for a great cause. So check it out.
Back to working on tattoo designs and looking up supplies for the jacket design.
I’m really tired still, but I always manage to wake up with my mom, who wakes up fairly early to get ready for work.
Anyhow, I still have to pick out more pictures for Steve’s tattoo I think, then I’m going to email them to him so he can decide what’s going on and which ideas he likes, what he wants incorporated into the design and everything. That’ll be fun, but just browsing the tribal designs is fun in general.
I have Tyler’s jacket design sketched, I’ve had it done for a few days now actually, it’s just a matter of finding where I can get certain supplies for it and everything.
I want to work on my dragonfly tattoo design today too, it’s going to be an interesting task, because just like when I’m working for Steve, he is a perfectionist in the sense that he wants things to be just like he says, and when I have a vision in my head, I want my drawing to come out exactly like I picture it in my head. When it doesn’t, I get frustrated and kind of cranky about the whole situation actually. But, I’m going to do this, and it’s going to be easy.
But for now, I think I’m going to go back to sleep or something, I’m really tired.
So I’ve got an idea for my next tattoo, it’s going to look stellar. Well, not really stellar, that would involve stars. I do eventually want a tattoo involving stars, but this one is dragonflies. I really like the idea, and it’s going to look really good once I draw it. Once it’s drawn, it will be posted up on the site.
Oh! And I get to draw or at least help Steve scout out ideas for his next tattoo, this tribal design that starts on his shoulder and wraps around to his chest and comes down his chest part of the way. It’s going to look really good, and I’m not sure if I’m drawing it yet or not, but I know that he’s been having me pick out pictures and letting him go through them for ideas on what he would like incorporated into it. So, if I do draw that design, I’ll definitely post it up here as well.
So now, in the next few weeks I have my tattoo design to draw, Steve’s to help him with, and a fashion design that I have to have finished drawing, and make the actual jacket before November 28th. That gives me a month to make this jacket, and I won’t even get Tyler’s measurements for another week and two to three days. So, this will be a major crunch project, that’s going to be insane to work with, but I’m going to do it. I really want it to go well, and I really hope it does. Everything so far is turning out really nice today, so let’s hope it keeps up for me.
I’m going to go look at pictures for Steve’s tribal tattoo, I’ll catch everyone later.
